 Youth Services Computer Policy

(Revised November 30, 2004)

In order to comply with the CIPA Act ,in addition to the Easton Area Public Library Policy of Acceptable Computer Resources, parents and their children must agree to the following:

To meet the informational and educational needs of our young patrons, Easton Area Public Library offers computer use for word processing, research, educational games and activities, and e-mail.  The computers are equipped with filtering software to guard against access to objectionable sites.  It is important, however, for parents to understand that no blocking software is foolproof.  Chat rooms and instant messaging are not permitted.  A time limit of sixty minutes is in effect if other patrons are waiting to use a computer.

The Youth Services Department has computers and computer software programs that are appropriate for pre-school through sixth grade level.  Please sign-up at the Reservation Station. Patrons must use their own valid, fine free Easton Area Public Library card.

(Pre-schoolers may use a parent’s card.)  Although we do not offer instruction, staff is available for assistance. Parents of pre-school children must supervise their child’s use of the pre-school computer.  Parents must also assume responsibility for their child’s use of the Internet through the library connection.

  •  Black and white printing only is available on the circulation desk printer at a cost of $.10 per page. (Cash Card Services are not available in the Youth Services Department, cash only will be accepted.)

  • Computer users are to adhere to the following:

  • A parent’s or legal guardian’s signature is required for children to use the Easton Area Public Library computers.

  • At CD Rom stations, please do not remove CDs or insert your own discs.  Library staff will load and remove CDs.

  • Please do not open any programs, files, or folders that exist on the computer.

  • Please do not turn off the computer when you are finished.

  • Please keep the volume at a minimal level.  When headphones are used, please make sure you speak in a low voice if speaking becomes necessary.

  • If you experience any problems with the computer, notify library staff.
