Library News......

The Friends of the Easton Area Public Library are happy to announce that our goal to raise enough money to install a fire suppression system in the Marx Local History Room has been met.  We couldn’t have done it without two large grants from the Louise Moore Pine and Roswell Dean Pine Fund of the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation.

An initial $10,000 grant spurred the Friends group to develop and implement a plan to provide the Library with this much needed system. A mailing campaign began on June 28, and by September 3, the local community had responded by donating an additional $11,000. At that point, the Friends applied for a matching grant.

On September 30, LVCF awarded a second grant of $12,000, taking us over our $28,000 goal.

Comprehensive Fire Technologies has ordered materials for the installation of the system.  We are hoping that the project is completed by the end of the year.

LVCF Awards Library Friends Group $10,000 Grant for Marx Room

When the Friends of the Easton Area Public Library learned that the contents of the Marx Local History Room are not protected from fire, they initiated a project to raise funds for the installation of a fire suppression system. This room filled with local history and genealogy contains many valuable and irreplaceable items.

To begin the fundraising campaign, the Friends has received a very generous grant of $10,000 from the Louise Moore Pine and Roswell Dean Pine Fund of the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation, a collaboration of area philanthropists.

Friends and patrons of the Easton Library and of the Marx Room will be hearing shortly how they too can contribute to protecting this valuable local resource.

The Lehigh Valley Community Foundation has awarded $22,500 for the purchase of a delivery van for the Millennium Project, a cooperative effort of the Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton public libraries to share resources, save costs and more efficiently serve the public. The project was conceived by the directors of the three libraries: Janet Fricker of Bethlehem Area Public Library, Renee Haines of Allentown Public Library, and Jennifer Stocker of Easton Area Public Library so their patrons will be able to borrow materials online without going through interlibrary loan, a more costly alternative. The three libraries already share an online catalog system. The van will enable daily deliveries between the three libraries.

The Lehigh Valley Community Foundation is a collaboration among area philanthropists to improve the quality of life in our region. They awarded a substantial number of grants to area nonprofits totaling $1,748,935 last year. The South Side Branch of the Bethlehem Area Public Library benefited from a Lehigh Valley Community Foundation $5000 grant for the recent renovations to the first floor. Easton Area Public Library’s Henry F. Marx Local History Room benefited from a recent $8000 grant from the Louise Moore Pine and Roswell Dean Pine Fund of the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation.

Bernard Story, President and CEO of the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation presented the check to the three directors on Friday, April 5 at the Allentown Public Library.
