Church and Cemetery Records Indexes
The
Easton Area Public Library has over 175 volumes of Northampton County church
and cemetery records in its collection.
The complete list is available in
our online catalog
(search by church name or municipality or under the
subject Church records and registers).
We now
have two indexes to these records.
1. 31
volumes of church records were indexed as part of a Works Progress
Administration project during the 1930s. In an effort to make this print
index available to researchers, we have digitized it and placed it on our
web site. With one search you will be able to ascertain if a name appears
in these 31 volumes of records. All Indexes are in .pdf format and are
large in size and will take a while to download. (Below)
2. The
Library has also begun an indexing project to compile a master index to the
church and cemetery not included in the WPA index. This online index will
include the names of those persons who were baptized, married, or buried.
This is a work in progress, with 16 volumes containing about 30,000 names
completed. As more volumes are finished the index will grow. The indexes
are in .pdf format.

The
Library is accepting volunteers to help index our church and cemetery
records. If you live in the Easton area, have a computer, and would like to
help, contact Barbara Wiemann at 610-258-2917 ex. 381 or
barbaraw@eastonpl.org. After an initial in-library training (1 hour),
volunteers do the indexing at their convenience in their home.
“An Index of Names
Appearing in Church Records of Twenty-Eight Churches in the
Easton Public Library”
Clicking on a
letter will take you to that index, where you can select surname(s) to search. Once you have located an individual and
have a source code (such as C24), refer to the list of volumes
below the letters to determine the church and type of entry. In
this example, you would know that the record you found is for a
baptism that occurred between 1845 and 1893 at St. John’s
Evangelical Lutheran Church in Easton.
MAIL SERVICE - Photocopies of the
transcribed church records cost $1.00 for each page. There is a limit of 10 pages per
request. All requests must be made by mail. Include a
self-addressed, stamped envelope to receive a reply. Requests of
5 or more pages require additional postage.
